(More customer reviews)Unfortunately this product looks better in the advertising photos than in real life. The product photos are taken from a distance so it's hard to see any details. In the photos the hat looks almost glossy in appearance and rich in color. The product description mentions that the hat is stained and distressed to give it an antique finish. What this means is that the hat will have several areas with no color (the natural straw color instead).
I guess I envisioned a different look when they said the hat was stained. The actual product looks like it was quickly spray painted a color. The painted color also flakes off, so I'm not too sure about the staining process or how long the hat will maintain its color. I thought stains were absorbed so I am surprised by the color flaking (perhaps it's an issue with working with straw).
Overall, this is fine for a play hat, but only if you get it at a low price. I found the quality disappointing. Also if you are looking for a flexible or moldable hat, this one isn't for you. The hat is very stiff (which is a plus if you want it to hold its shape).
