This is a terrific, heavy-duty coat which makes you actually want to run out into a storm just to scoff at the elements at every opportunty. Not the warmest coat around, but very comfortable for its durable fabric and the wide cut allows easy layering over warmer layers, even another coat. Great for my bird surveys in cool, rainy, windy or sunny weather and it's thistle proof too!
As with all products, there are some drawbacks. The waxed and oiled canvas should be hosed down and line dried upon reciept, otherwise a musty oiy smell can permeate the house for a few days. Also, this is not a light coat, and is not very appropriate for long treks if weather may turn warm with no breeze or if you have a lot to carry. Lastly, the collar needs a little breaking in to become comfortable, so wear an under layer with a raised collar for a couple weeks to avoid any chaffing.
Overall, this is a terrific product, and I'm actually eyeing a possible second, smaller one. I ordered a sized one, which turnd out to be about one half to one full size larger than expected - perfect for over layers, but a little bulky for just over a shirt.
