(More customer reviews)We purchased this (size small) hat for our soon to be 4 year old daughter. The fit is perfect for a small child and even allows for room to grow since it has the elastic band inside. I can see her still wearing this at age 6 or 7 even. The material is stiff but it IS a "straw" cowgirl hat. My husband's cowboy hat is the same way and is also a straw hat. If you want soft material your best bet is a crushable fleece one.
